Convert PNG to Targa with transparency maintained

0 votes

If you have a PNG (Portable Networks Graphics) file it has the ability to use transparency and be displayed in a web browser, the Trainz mini-browser can't handle this format (or GIF which also does transparency).

The only option is a TGA/Targa (Truevision Advanced Raster Graphics Adapter) using the alpha channel. It can be a pain to create a TGA direct from photoshop, but a PNG is easy.

So what utility?

See the other discussion about Photoshop http://trainz.ws/1/how-to-create-a-targa-tga-image-using-photoshop about creating a TARGA direct from PS.

But one tool I found, costs $70 (PHEW) is 'Batch Converter' at http://www.batchconverter.com/register.shtml just tried a complicated image that was exported from Photoshop as a PNG and it created the exact same display in a TARGA which Trainz is totally happy with displaying properly.
